How to use this calculator

Add a night, weekend or special-shift percentage to base pay. Enter your values into the fields above. Your result and individual components update immediately without leaving this page.

The formula

Base pay = hourly rate × eligible hours. Differential = base pay × premium percentage ÷ 100. Total eligible-shift earnings = base pay + differential.

Worked example

Eight eligible hours at $21/h produce $168 base pay. A 12% differential adds $20.16, for $188.16 total.

Frequently asked questions

Is a shift differential overtime?

Not necessarily. Shift premiums and overtime are different concepts, and the way they interact depends on your pay rules.

Can I enter a fixed dollar bonus?

This version calculates percentage-based differentials. For a fixed bonus, multiply the extra dollars per hour by eligible hours separately.
